Ortiz is most famous for his involvement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in which he is an ex-UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, having held the title from April 14, 2000 to September 26 2003. He was a pioneer in the sport alongside Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture. Ortiz became the biggest pay-per-view draw of 2006 because of his fights against Forrest Griffin, Ken Shamrock and Liddell.
