She is also the frontwoman for Rufus. Khan was raised as an Catholic. She attended Hyde Park Saint Thomas the Apostle Church primary school. Her love of music to her grandmother who first introduced her to jazz when she was just a child. Khan, a teenager at the time, became an avid lover of blues and rhythm music. Her first gig was around Chicago in bands of small size and with her lover Hassan Khan. Chaka along with Hassan Khan married in the 1970s.
